Key technical characteristics and application selection of CDSR suction hoses in dredging projects

In fields such as dredging projects, port construction, and river management, the efficient operation of dredgers is highly dependent on reliable material conveying systems. As a core component connecting key parts of a dredger, the CDSR suction hose plays an irreplaceable role in the pipeline system.

Functional positioning of the suction hose

The suction hose of a dredger differs from that of a fixed industrial slurry pump; it needs to be dynamically adjusted according to the operating environment.

The suction hose is mainly used for:

The drag arm of a trailing suction hopper dredger

Bridge of a cutter suction dredger

 

It is not only the first channel for slurry to enter the pumping system, but also a flexible hub connecting rigid pipes and working joints.

In the slurry suction system, the CDSR suction hose performs the following three key functions:

1. Dynamic adaptation: It can operate continuously within a certain bending angle, adapting to hull movement and changes in underwater topography.

2. Withstands combined loads: It can withstand both positive and negative pressure to prevent the hose from being sucked in or bursting.

3. Wear-resistant conveying: It can directly transport highly abrasive media containing silt, clay, or even gravel. 

Main technical characteristics of CDSR suction hose

CDSR suction hoses are designed specifically for demanding dredging conditions, and their core features are reflected in the following aspects:

1. Excellent material properties

Abrasion resistance: The lining uses a highly wear-resistant rubber formula, which effectively resists the continuous erosion of solid particles such as silt and gravel.

Weather resistance: The cover can resist ultraviolet rays, seawater, salt spray and wide temperature changes (working environment temperature -20°C to +50°C).

Flexibility: During dynamic operations involving repeated bending and twisting, the hose structure remains stable without delamination or cracking.

 

2. Reliable pressure resistance

Standard negative pressure: The maximum working pressure can reach -0.1MPa, and the test pressure is -0.08MPa, ensuring that the pipeline will not collapse under strong suction conditions.

Special requirements: It can be customized according to customer requirements to achieve working scenarios from -0.1MPa to +0.5MPa.

 

3. Wide material adaptability

Capable of conveying a variety of media with a specific gravity between 1.0 and 2.3, including:

Seawater, freshwater

Silt, clay

Sand, gravel and their mixtures

Highly abrasive materials such as coral reefs and weathered rock (armored structure required)

 

4. Strict quality standards

The suction hose complies with International standard ISO28017-2018 and Chinese Ministry of Chemical Industry standard HG/T2490-2023, and can also accept higher and more reasonable product performance requirements proposed by customers.

Design and Selection Considerations

Length matches the bending radius: Ensure that the hose can still meet the requirements for smooth suction even at the maximum bending angle, and avoid excessive bending that could lead to flow loss or cavitation.

Flange connection to system: The type of steel flange or sandwich flange must be strictly matched with the upstream and downstream pipelines to prevent leakage or stress concentration.

● Matching the characteristics of the transport medium: For ordinary silt and sand, a standard wear-resistant structure is sufficient; for coral reefs or weathered rocks, armored structure or Segment steel cone hose must be selected.
